Calibration and characterisation of four chlorophyll meters and transmittance spectroscopy for non-destructive estimation of forest leaf chlorophyll concentration

nd

Notably, our results revealed that even low-cost chlorophyll meters such as the atLEAF CHL PLUS and PhotosynQ MultispeQ V1.0 can provide similar (and in some cases, stronger) relationships with destructively-determined LCC when compared with well-established instruments such as the Konica Minolta SPAD-502+ and Opti-Sciences CCM-200. In the case of the atLEAF CHL PLUS, this is despite the fact that the instrument does not clamp the leaf (which could allow the ingress of ambient light and slight movements of the leaf). Similar results were presented by Zhu et al. (2012), who found atLEAF CHL PLUS measurements demonstrated no significant effects associated with irradiance or time of day.

SPAD-502 and atLEAF CHL PLUS values provide good estimation of the chlorophyll content for Hevea brasiliensis Müll. Arg. Leaves

nd

Rubber leaves index values observed by SPAD- 502 and atLEAF CHL PLUS were closely correlated, hence both of the devices can substitute each other. In addition, the correlation between atLEAF CHL PLUS and SPAD-502 values with absolute chlorophyll content of clone SP 217, PB 260, GT1, and all clones (general) were significant with a high coefficient of determination (R2) as well as low RMSE and CV. Therefore, both atLEAF CHL PLUS and SPAD-502 can be used to make fast and nondestructive prediction of chlorophyll content of rubber plant leaf.

Comparing SPAD and atLEAF values for chlorophyll assessment in crop species

spad vs atleaf

SPAD and atLEAF values were strongly correlated and not affected by the different measurement conditions. The atLEAF Chl meter can therefore be used as an inexpensive alternative to the SPAD-502 meter, although the latter was found to be easier to handle.

In-field plant monitoring as a tool for n management in small grains

protein content of grain

The average AtLeaf chlorophyll index reading of the penultimate leaves was closely correlated to the tissue N concentration of those leaves and served as a good predictor of the eventual protein content of the grain.

Using handhels chlorophyll meters to monitor leaf senescence

 atLEAF vs Minolta SPAD-502

...the Minolta SPAD-502 costs about $2600.00. In contrast, the atLEAF is a relatively new chlorophyll meter which can be purchased for one tenth of the cost... We found that the relative chlorophyll reading from SPD-502 and atLEAF meters were highly correlated both to one another and to chlorophyll content determined with spectrophotometry.
